Three Coins in Richmond Hill for breakfast

Check'n out the Richmond Hill o'l downtown. Three Coins was filled with locals coming our  for some big breakfasts. This is no nouveau -retro diner, but the real deal back from when RH was the town is was in the 1970s.
Anyway, there was tones of tasty homefries done right.

Bar Buca - brunching on King St. West (so that's what it looks like in the day)

So. This was a bit of a departure for the usual fare for Toronto Brunch Association. Off the menu were the standards that we are most accustomed to. No easy over with sausage. No omelet of spinach and cheese. No eggs Florentine. Not even a moons-over-my-hammy! Bar Buca is in Toronto's King St. West club area that I tend to associate more with night time. Well, glad to hang in the hood with friends and not have a wicked hangover 12 hours later or having drained the instabroke machine. If they had bottle service I would have gotten a big bottle of brewed coffee.

Humm, maybe if I actually went to Florence this is the kind of early meal (do they even brunch there?) we would have. I would even sit at a table to have it and not drink the late at the bar. If anyone want to suggest where to eat in Florence....

Now that I think of it I really ought to have gotten an orange juice too. Bar Buca is in this building, Seventy5 Portland, designed by Philippe Starck. Since he also designed this juicer I assume they are built into the whole building.

Toronto Brunch Association in Ottawa

Pop up brunch is a thing. Famous local Ottawa chef held a pop up brunch at Raw Sugar Cafe. Very tasty! And a wonderfully poached egg :)
So skip the Great Glebe Garage Sale an eat some of this...

Toronto Brunch heads to Madoc

Travelling from Toronto to Ottawa requires at least one stop - food and gas. Madoc is a near half way place. We found the Murdock Firehouse Grill just opposite the train station (well almost opposite). Not bad. Could have used a few more flavours - maybe some fried onion or peppers. Service was pleasant enough for some come from away folks. Best of all, if you want some new guitar strings the have a great selection!
Poached, brown toast and Ernie Ball medium.

Cafe du Neuf, oh la la

It is just like being in Paris. All the staff are from France or seems. Inside is too small, but with the patio across from Clarence Square park it's enough to imagine you are having a petit cafe in the Tuileries.

Word on Toronto Brunch

Word on the Street is that Kilgours brunch is good to eat before heading off to Word on the Street.
I must say the pleasant early fall light shining in through our window overlooking Bloor St was sublime.
Service was lovely, not too busy and nice home fries. Still not sure about salad with brunch.

Easy Brunch

Toronto Brunch
Toronto Brunch
Toronto Brunch
College St has a lot of brunch options, Aunties and Uncle's, Sneaky Dees and plenty more. This time we gave Easy Restaurant, near the Mod Club, a go. With six adults and two kids it was a tough squeeze fitting us all in under the patio umbrella on the tiny patio. The food was quite good as you can see. If it was a bigger place we would go back.
PS they had the good Mexican hot sauce :)

I had never been to Cora's. It was OK, but feels like a chain of course. It was close to the Sky dome :)

The Ace. A Roncies visit for the Toronto Bruch Associaton

Toronto Brunch
It's been a while .... brunch on Roncesvalles . The Toronto Brunch Association squeezed into the Ace for a little retro-old-timey Bacon and eggs. Very cozy.

Lakeview Lunch - the new 2011 version

Toronto Brunch
Toronto Brunch Association welcomed most honourable interlopers to this town who, as were lead to believe was awash with gravy and thought that sounded delicious, needed to be entertained and fed. Competition for scarce resources such as seating for a party of five for brunch can be competitive indeed. Fortune granted us a lovely booth by the window at a greatly improved Lakeview Lunch (see past review). Yumm.

Hey, did you all know that you can make brunch at home? Why didn't anyone tell me this before?

Toronto Brunch back to School weekend

Toronto Brunch
Toronto Brunch
Toronto Brunch
Labour Day weekend. Time to put away the tennis whites, lawn bowling balls and set aside the gin and tonic. Children ready themselves for back to school. And so it was that the Toronto Brunch Association headed to Liberty Village for brunch at School Bakery and Cafe. As you can see, brunch was lovely, not a slap-dash affair and pleasant school themed environment, though this writer could do without Hooters like school girl costumes, preferring my waitstaff a la French cafe mode. Anyway, the food is commendable and eased our minds as we accepted the inevitable end of the season.

See to go to School

Hammersmith brunch

Toronto Brunch
Toronto Brunch
Oh man, I so dig Gerard Square mall. I wonder if the foodcourt there has brunch? I wonder because Hammersmith's brunch was not as good as I had hoped. It has only been open a couple of weeks, so I guess they are learning. Cute place where Logan Diner used to be, but I don't eat decor.

A little Pour Boy brunching

Toronto Brunch

Toronto's Koreatown has one more (not just Clinton's) place for the Toronto Brunch Association to associate with. Here's brunch at the Pour Boy, on Manning at Bloor St. It's a small place but we managed.

Caplansky's for a smoked meat brunch

Toronto Brunch
A Caplansky's Toronto Brunch
After a week of sympathetic weightloss-so-I'll-look-good-in-my-wedding-dress William and Kate wedding anticipation, it's finally done, I'm ready for a hardy brunch with chunks of smoked meat.

Brunch at Brads on Roncies

Update: Brad's is now closed. Bye bye Brad's.

Made the arduous journey along Roncesvalles to have brunch at Brads.

Well, you can't blame it all on construction. Homefries were deep-fried and plain. Art on the wall that I faced was bland (but had aspirations -that it clearly did not understand). That actually sums up brunch there as well.

Clinton Street Bakery in NYC

Thinking we're repeating ourselves too much at Toronto Brunch Association (we have been sparing readers with our brunch reviews most of the time when we are back at one of our regular brunch places) an intrepid team of TBAers made the trip to New York City. There, we went to Clinton Street Bakery (quite the coincidence because we at TBA do like Clinton's on Bloor St for brunch too) in the lower east side of NYC.
It was a drizzly Friday morning around 10am and still there was a 20min line up (all waiting on the street). So that's how it's going to be NYC i see! Always a line up for the (trendy) places that don't take reservations.

Toronto Brunch
We got the banana pancakes and the southern breakfast of
two eggs, sugar-cured bacon, cheese grits, fried green tomatoes.

Very nice. Very good cup of coffee (strong like when I make bodum coffee).  And in NYC they bring you water right away - something Toronto could learn! It was, all in all a lovely meal with every item specially prepared a la Clinton Street Bakery. And in my book there is nothing better than when a chef or restauranter puts their own stamp on a meal - especially when the meal is as common place as a breakfast.

Spring had sprung. And that makes every one hungry, so we ate all our food, and THEN, took a picture. But it sure was nice to be in High Park (food was so so).
